“We Are Where the Story Begins” by Dr Yousef Ahmad Al-Maiari, published by Al-Maktaba Al-Asriya in Sidon, Lebanon.

A Heartbeat Between Two Covers

What this book carries is not merely words set in rows on paper. It is the heartbeat of a nation that refused to be buried in ashes, the voice of a people who wrote their history in blood and pride. It is the breath of the land when it speaks, the echo of Jerusalem when it cries out in the hearts of its descendants, and when the wounds fall silent, it remains the voice that never fades.

Here the stones speak, and the wounded rise from their wounds to write for themselves, drawing from their blood a covenant that cannot be shattered. Here the book becomes a mother's cry over the ruins of her home, the song of a child whose laughter was stolen and the promise of a young man who was never defeated, even when he was gone from the field. In its meanings dignity shines, in its words awareness rises and in its pages lies a steadfastness that cannot be shaken.

This book is an uprising of the written word and the awareness of a cause, an oath renewed in every heart: that a word born of pain will not be erased by the sword, bought at the tables of politics or sold in the markets of submission. It is a tent of meaning in a desert of falsehood, a fortress for the cause in an age of empty bidding, the voice of the farmer who planted with one hand and carried a rifle with the other, and the cry of the steadfast guardian whose brow never ceased to bow in prayer.

Do not take its lines lightly. In them are absent faces and names that were erased yet live on in every heartbeat and every echo. Even if the world's eyes turn away from us, and causes are traded at the tables of buying and selling, this book will remain an argument that never wears out and a voice that only extinction could silence.

So open this book and look between its lines. You will see that we never accepted silence, never moved from what is right and never traded our wound for a reconciliation that would strip the homeland of its meaning. We kept guarding the word, protecting awareness and planting history with pens that do not tremble. This book is not the end of the story, nor a novel to be closed. It is the torch that passes the light to those who come after, writing for every generation a line that carries its salvation and raises its honour.

If one day they ask, “Who are you?”, let this book answer for us. Let every line be a voice declaring that we were never a footnote in the scenes of history, nor a shadow in the stories of nations. We were the heartbeat, the wounds, the oath and the word that refused to fall in the battles of silence.

This book does not decorate paper with idle dreams or craft ornaments without substance. It reveals to every reader the consciousness of a nation that has lived through more than can be told and endured what cannot be written, and that refused to sell its voice in the markets of submission.

As time passes over its pages and the winds of denial try to erase its letters, they will remain as if carved into a mountain, undefeated by the storms of falsification and untouched by every plot to wipe them away. Here the homeland writes for itself. Here we prove that we are stronger than erasure and deeper than forgetting, and that our voice, however narrow the ears that hear it, will remain a light in the sky of truth whose rays never set.

We are the mountains; in us the homeland stands firm, and on us the eyes of history have always rested.

The truth will not fall while our resolve endures, though madness follow madness through our nights.

We walk the road, unafraid of its storms, for the wind bows down when our branches rise high.

This is our book, a voice that calls to us,in which the truths and the histories stand clear.

The Key to the Story

As we open the cover on these pages, we are not simply announcing a beginning. We are taking up a key to a wider horizon and setting the direction of the story, so that our steps are guided towards meanings deeper than page numbers and titles. In its essence, the story is greater than brackets that open and close, greater than paper folded and put away on a distant shelf. It is an unbroken journey shaped by honest testimony, careful scrutiny and pure intention. Here we write as a guardian writes his will on the blade of a sword. We set each letter in its place like the stones of a building destined to last, not as ornament that dazzles and fades, but as truth that speaks to the heart and stays in the memory as the call to prayer stays with every new dawn. These letters are keys to doors not yet opened, and the torch of a long road lighting the paths and distances to come.

We move through this book on a foundation of careful verification and rigorous checking. A slip of a letter leads astray, a confused word darkens meaning and a misplaced vowel mark can turn meaning from its course. So we made this book a scale on which words are weighed as gold dust is weighed on a fine balance: polishing only makes it purer, and revision only removes its flaws. We fix every meaning in its place and give each idea its rightful seat, so that the language stands firm like a wall guarding a city and steady like a mountain holding back the storm. We weigh our words to match our intentions, so that no glittering metaphor lures us from truthful reporting and no ornament of style hides the fairness of an argument.

The aim is not only to craft words, but to set a true direction for the truth, a scale for meaning and a heartbeat that never stops. When truth loses its direction, it wanders; when the word loses its honesty, it dies; and when a nation loses its memory, it becomes a ship floundering in a dark sea. We write to prove that the story is never extinguished but is born again and again in every free heart and every eye that refuses humiliation. We write to revive a covenant handed down through the generations, and to root values that years cannot undo and winds cannot sweep away. In essence, the book is a pledge read with the heart before the eyes, a key to a door that the young will open whenever darkness closes its eyelids.

Between beginning and end, events flow like a river cutting through the rock of reality, watering the trees of memory and planting in their soil olive trees that root wisdom and steadfastness. Every line here is a breath of a nation, and every phrase is part of a long covenant that the winds of oblivion cannot blow away.

We do not offer lines to be folded away. We lay a foundation to endure and raise a building that grows taller each time a generation rises to carry the banner and complete the journey. If the book is asked its name, it says: “My spirit is my name.” If asked its time, it says: “Every moment.” If asked its place, it says: “Your hearts are my home.”

We offer this introduction in a melody of language whose rhythm meets the ear as a drop of water meets the stone of a riverbed: raising no dust and leaving no noise, yet carving a channel that lasts. We arrange the sentences like the strings of an oud, tightened just enough for the tune, so that no rhythm falters and no note strays from its purpose. We craft images like paintings whose colours move quietly, so that when the eye reaches the end, it returns to find what it missed. This is our pledge to you, dear reader: we will leave no word uncertain, no meaning obscure and no phrasing confused.

This, reader of the heart, is a book opened not to fill a number of pages, but to complete what is missing in our insight and raise the worth of our knowledge. If you find in it something that strengthens your hand, that is its highest aim. If you find something that goes against your inclinations, then know that in going against inclination lies the life of truth. We ask God, who guides and helps, to make this introduction a necklace of light at the opening of the reading, and to make what follows clearer in expression and sharper in proof, so that the story runs true and the word rises to the station destined for it: to guide, to bear witness and to endure.

The word, my friend, is a swift arrow when it leaves the bow of truth, and a burning fire when it is cast into the pit of falsehood. Only the sea of faith can put it out, and only the clouds of heedlessness can hide its light. It is a witness written in the pages of history, an echo repeating in the ears of generations and a banner raised over the fields. The word is a trust to be honoured, a banner to be carried and a pledge on which a building stands. Whoever carries it without honesty has betrayed it; whoever sets it in the wrong place has led others astray; whoever makes it a ladder for falsehood has torn down; and whoever raises it on the foundation of truth has built, raised and brought to life.

If nations are measured by the strength of their swords and the number of their soldiers, this nation is measured by the strength of its word and by how firmly it holds to a truth that does not fade. Do you not see that a word in its course is like a river in its flow? If its water is sweet, it gives life; if it is salt, it kills.

So it is with letters: when they are pure, they save; when they are muddied, they destroy. Here, in these pages, we place every word on the scale as gold is placed on the balance. No tongue speaks without proof, and no pen is raised without evidence. If eloquence is the key, knowledge is the door. If letters are soldiers, truth is the commander who leads them. If the word is a banner, justice is the mast on which it stands. Truth is measured by the strength of its voice: if it is honest, it endures; if it is false, it perishes. This is the measure of nations and the path of their survival.

We do not write to satisfy the appetite of a passing reader or to decorate walls with ornate words. We write to place in every heart a key that opens the door of truth, and to light in every heart a lamp that illuminates the path of justice. A letter is a soldier among the soldiers of faith, and a word is a sword among the swords of truth: whoever crafts it with wisdom triumphs, and whoever squanders it through heedlessness loses. As long as there is breath in our chests, we will carry the word as arrows are carried into battle: never fired idly or released without responsibility, but always aimed to establish truth and defeat falsehood. It is a covenant the pen signs, time witnesses and the hearts of generations affirm, a mirror of history and a witness to yesterday, today and the tomorrow that is coming.

This book is not a number in a register or a page in a ledger. It is a breath that expands in the chests of nations, a spirit renewed in every age that seeks the light. It is a cry of truth when falsehood tyrannises, a scale of justice when the scales are overturned, a hymn of souls when tongues are struck dumb. It is a channel for the voice that never dies and a spring of truth that never withers, proof that a truthful letter outlasts rock, rises above the summits and runs deeper than any trace in the soil that keeps memory alive.

It is a canvas open to the face of time, crowded with colours and embraced by lines. Look at it, and you will see that every line is a shining star, every word a seed that sprouts, every meaning a mountain raising its head against the wind. It is a notebook of cries and visions, a garden of memory blooming in every season, a cloud of blessing raining on land that never dries. This book seeks to be a voice for the suffering, a letter for the silenced and an account that reveals what history tried to erase, a light opening in every heart that seeks the truth.

If we are asked, “What is the message of this book?”, we answer: it is a torrent running through the cracks of time, carrying silenced voices and tears shed by eyes that history never recorded. If we are asked, “What is its aim?”, we answer: to form in every reader a mirror in which they see themselves, their cause and their destiny. It is like a lamp burning in the darkness, a sword drawn in the face of fear, a flower that resists the hard rock and grows in spite of every stone, every rain and every wind.

It is, reader of the heart, the heartbeat of a nation that refuses to be a faint echo in a falsified history and wants to be an authentic voice in the book of endurance. It is a line written in the heart before it is written on paper, a pledge in the soul before it is an oath in public gatherings. It is a tree whose roots are in the soil of truth and whose branches are in the sky of freedom, its fruit falling into the palms of the generations as nourishment for memory and provision for the road. Here speech rises from eloquence to rhythm, and poetry takes up what prose began.

So take it, my friend, as a sword is taken up in battle: not for display but for defence, not for empty pride but to cut through and decide. Read it as blood is read on the ground: without letters or sound, yet crying out to the soul. Carry it as a banner is carried: not hidden behind curtains, but raised above the ranks. For in its essence it is a call to life, a declaration that a nation endures as long as it has a voice that speaks the truth aloud.

We are the ones who, when truth calls, rise up,the voice of truth thundering in our hearts.

We are the mountains: when the storms descend, our steps hold firm, and there we make our home.

Today we lean on nothing but true guidance, until we clear every error from the road.

We raise the banner of honesty above our heads, until the night lifts its heavy weight of despair.

We become a light when its darkness thickens, flowing over the earth as goodness to come.

This is a book that yields to no falsehood, but sends forth its words like a polished sword.

This is a book that will not barter its right, but proclaims the ancient promise in its glory.

The truth in us will never be compromised;it will not fade, and it will never pass away.

For the voice of truth we build a lasting monument, and turn the lies of injustice into scattered dust.
